Straw Bale Construction
Click Here to for a list of some of the benefits of building with straw bales.

At HavenCraft Natural Homes, we have been building and living straw bale since 1999. We have first hand experience at the comfort and inspiration of living in an organic home.

From the beginning, as well as while the project moves along,  there are many opportunities for creativity that aren't really possible (or inspired) in standard construction.  Things such as archways, barrel vaults, vaulted entryways, niches, artistic (but code-approved) railings and stairways, mosaics, and all sorts of fun with logs and branches and virtually anything that strikes your fancy.
This interior bale wall has a gothic window frame in it.  The plaster and tempered glass railing features a mosaic made of broken wine and beer bottles as well as a plaster cat-tail.
Moisture Readings:  We've been monitoring the moisture of the bales from time to time and keeping them on a spreadsheet.

This is  a garden shed we built with a living roof. It has a timber frame structure to support the heavy roof loads.

The louvered windows and door are recycled from other renovation work we've done.

This is a small single storey home with a vaulted ceiling in the living room, letting in the sunshine and beautiful views.

The bale walls are wrapped around a timber frame.
