Indoor air quality is now recognized to be a major health issue and a large contributor to the high incidence of asthma. It has been said that the indoor air in a new home is worse than the outside air in a city on a smog day.
That is why we believe strongly in using materials and finishes with little or no toxicity to them:
- linseed and other natural oils as sealers on wood and concrete,
- no-VOC paints and sealers
- formaldehyde-free materials and insulation,
- renewable materials such as bamboo,
- recycled content materials.
The built-in dresser above is made of strawboard, an MDF-like material made of straw with formaldehyde-free glues, and is veneered with bamboo, and finished with linseed oil and bees' wax.
